Nigerian Afrobeats recording artist wizkid, who already has three studio albums, one compilation album, fifty singles (including thirty-eight as a featured artist), forty-four promotional singles, sixteen guest appearances, six cameo appearances and thirty-three music videos is set to drop is 4th studio album Made In Lagos.
Wizkid started his music career at age 11, releasing a seven-track collaborative album with Glorious Five entitled Lil Prinz. He later signed a record deal with Empire Mates Entertainment in 2009 owned by another popular Nigerian singer, rapper, actor and politician Banky W.
From 2009 through 2011, Wizkid worked on materials for his debut album Superstar, the most highly anticipated Nigerian album of 2011. Superstar had hit singles like “Love My Baby“, “Pakurumo“, “Tease Me/Bad Guys“, “Don’t Dull” and “Holla at Your Boy“.
In 2012, wizkid teamed up with super star producer Sars popularly known as Sarz On The Beat to drop hit singles like “Beat of Life (Samba)” & “Dance For Me”. He also teamed up with label mates to drop songs like “Baddest Boy”, “See My Mama”, “Get Down Tonight” and hit single like “Thank You”.
From 2013, wizkid started collaborating with top Nigerian artist to drop hit tracks like “Pull Over with Kcee”, “Kokose with Sound Sultan”, “You Garrit with Orezi”, “Bad Girl with Jesse Jags”, “Fine Lady with Lynxxx”, “Komotion with Ice Prince” and “Slow Down with R2bees”. Wizkid dropped two major hit singles for that year “Azonto” and “Jaiye Jaiye”.
Moving on to 2014, wizkid started working on his second studio album, Ayo, which was released on September 17, 2014 by Starboy Entertainment and Empire Mates Entertainment. Ayo which simply means Joy, was postponed twice due to difficulty in track selection. Preceding its release were hit singles like “Jaiye Jaiye“, “On Top Your Matter”, “One Question”, “Joy”, “Bombay” and “Show You The Money”. Wizkid enlisted Sarz, Shizzi, Uhuru, Del B, Dokta Frabz, Maleek Berry, Legendury Beatz and Spellz to produce the album. Ayo features collaborations with Femi Kuti, Seyi Shay, Yemi Sax, Akon, Banky W., Phyno, Tyga and Wale. It received mixed reviews from music critics, who had a difference of opinion about the album. Some critics commended its production, song arrangement and sound quality, while others panned its lyrics.
On June 9, 2014, “Joy” and “Bombay” were released simultaneously as the album’s fourth and fifth singles. Both songs were produced by Dokta Frabz. Wizkid performed a cover of “No Woman, No Cry” at Koga Studios for BBC’s Destination Africa and merged “Joy” with the cover. On June 13, 2014, the music video for “Bombay” was released to YouTube at a total length of 3 minutes and 23 seconds.
On July 16, 2014, the Shizzi-produced track “Show You the Money” was released as the album’s sixth single. The visuals for the song was directed by Patrick Elis and features cameo appearances from Ehiz and Dokta Frabz.
The Legendury Beatz-produced track “Caro” was added to the album as a bonus; the song features vocals by Wizkid and L.A.X. The music video for “Caro” was directed in London by Moe Musa and uploaded to YouTube on August 20, 2013. “Caro” was nominated for Hottest Single of the Year at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards, and for Song of the Year at the 2014 African Muzik Magazine Awards. On September 22, 2014, Wizkid released the Soto Jose-directed music video for “In My Bed”. The following month, “In My Bed” charted at number five on The Tide‘s list of the Top 10 Songs of the Week. The music video for “Ojuelegba” was released on January 5, 2015. It was shot and directed in Lagos by Clarence Peters.
Wizkid Sounds From The Other Side
Sounds from the Other Side is the third studio album and major label debut by Nigerian singer Wizkid. The album contains songs that were recorded between 2014 and 2017. It was released on July 14, 2017, by Starboy Entertainment, RCA Records and Sony Music Entertainment.
Sounds from the Other Side encompasses several other genres, including Afrobeats, EDM, R&B, and house. The album features guest appearances from Drake, Major Lazer, Chris Brown, Ty Dolla Sign, Efya, Bucie and Trey Songz. Its production was handled by Sarz, Del B, Spellz, Dre Skull, DJ Mustard, Major Lazer, and the Picard Brothers.
The album debuted at number 107 on the US Billboard 200. It also debuted at number 58 on the Canadian Albums Chart. The album’s release was preceded by three singles: “Daddy Yo” featuring Efya, “Sweet Love”, and “Come Closer” featuring Drake. “African Bad Gyal” was released alongside the pre-order of the album on June 9, 2017, and “Naughty Ride” was released as a promotional track on June 23, 2017.
Wizkid Made In Lagos
For the fourth time, wizkid has teased his fans with several release dates for Made In Lagos since February 2018. While tensions grew in December 2019, that the Lagos-born singer would release the project, which is anticipated as an ode to his birthplace, Wizkid instead dropped a 7-track Extended Playlist (EP) dubbed Soundman Volume 1.

Wizkid has, however, praised his forthcoming album to be “the best (compilation project) he has ever made.” Meanwhile, Burna Boy’s fifth studio album, dubbed ‘Twice As Tall’ have broken major records and its been tagged the best album for the year 2020 while Davido’s fourth studio album, titled A Better Time also broke major records and went platinum worldwide.
At the moment, this three are the highest streamed artistes in the continent.
Wizkid announced that the Made In Lagos album would feature artistes such as Burna Boy, Damian Marley (Jamaican), Tems, Starboy Terri, Ella Mai (British), Tay Iwar, Skepta (British Nigerian), Projexx (Jamaican) and H.E.R. (American). He also disclosed his sound production and engineering team to be BlaqJerzee, London, Sarz, Mutay and Juls (British Ghanaian), Dro (American) and Kel P.
