The worlds tallest man ever “of whom there is irrefutable evidence” was subsequently identified by the twins as Robert Wadlow.

The polite American extended a remarkable 2.72 m (8 ft 11.1 in) tall when last measured on June 27, 1940.

Unexpectedly, Robert was born just like the majority of newborns. He was born on February 22, 1918, weighing an ordinary 3.85 kg (8.7 lb) to two average-sized parents.

But he quickly began to rocket up, and by the time he was five years old, he had grown to an amazing 1.63 m (5 ft 4 in) and was already dressing like a teenager.

Worlds tallest man dressed as a teenager

At age eight, worlds tallest man ever outgrew his father Harold F. Wadlow, who stood at 5 feet 11 inches (180.3 cm) tall and dwarfed his four younger siblings.

Robert was able to hoist his father up the stairs of their home when other kids still needed their parents to carry them.

But because of his extraordinary height, Robert developed a number of health problems that got worse as he aged and grew taller.

But as a young child, he made every effort to participate in the same pursuits as his friends. For instance, he joined the Boy Scouts when he was 13 and received a personalized outfit, tent, and sleeping bag.

By the time he was 17, Robert had reached a height of 2.45 m (8 ft 0.5 in), making him the tallest adolescent in history.

The worlds tallest man ever entered college in 1936 after graduating from high school with plans to major in law.

Worlds tallest man ever Fame-based careers

Worlds tallest man ever gained international recognition, though, when he went on tour with the wildly successful Ringling Brothers Circus later that year.

In response to a question on the radio about whether he became angry when people looked at him, he responded coolly, “No, I just overlook them.”

The calm, unassuming man embraced his newfound fame and capitalized on it by booking paid engagements.

Additionally, the International Show Company (now INTERCO), which promised to create him shoes for free, joined him on a promotional trip.

This was a godsend for Robert since he had the biggest feet ever, measuring 47 cm (18.5 in) long, which is the equivalent of a US size 37AA (UK size 36, or nearly a European size 75).
He could have paid $100 for his shoes, which would be $1,500 (£1,026) in today’s money.

The Alton Giant also has the biggest hands ever, with a measurement of 32.3 cm (12.7 in) from wrist to middle fingertip.

But what brought to Robert’s unusual height?

Large pituitary tumor

After examining Robert, doctors discovered that his pituitary gland hyperplasia was the reason for his unusually large stature.

Robert never had any medication to reduce the excessively high levels of human growth hormone caused by this disease.

Robert Wadlow evaded the notice of surgeons because they lacked the confidence to operate on him, according to Dr. Donald Rau, Medical Consultant for Guinness World Records. He could therefore hold the title of tallest man for a very long period.

He actually grew taller right up until his death, reaching an astounding max daily caloric intake of 8,000 calories.

Since that time, advances in medical science and therapy have allowed pituitary gigantism patients, such as Sultan Kösen, the tallest man alive as of 2017, to have surgery to stop the production of growth hormones.

Robert had trouble moving about due to his illness; he used a walking stick and leg braces but never a wheelchair.

Wadlow’s passing

Worlds tallest man ever Robert tragically passed away at the young age of 22 because of his legs.

He passed away at 1:30 a.m. on July 15, 1940, at a motel in Manistee, Michigan, as a result of a brace that had been improperly placed just one week previously and developed a septic blister on his right ankle.

His last words, which were in reference to his paternal grandparents’ golden wedding, were, “The doctor says I won’t get home for the…celebrations.”

The Alton Giant was later laid to rest in a gigantic casket that was 3.28 m (10 ft 9 in) long, 81 cm (32 in) broad, and 76 cm (30 in) deep in Oakwood Cemetery in Alton.
