Top African Countries Excelling in Attracting and Retaining Talent
The Global Talent Competitiveness Index (GTCI) has identified Mauritius, South Africa, and Botswana as the most talent-competitive countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The GTCI, which measures how countries and cities grow, attract, and retain talent, serves as a crucial resource for decision-makers aiming to understand the global talent competitiveness landscape and develop strategies to enhance their economies.
Key Findings of the GTCI 2023 Report
Titled “What a Difference Ten Years Make – and What to Expect for the Next Decade,” the report highlights Sub-Saharan Africa’s position as the weakest region in terms of talent retention.
Despite this, eight countries from the region rank in the third quartile globally, with Mauritius standing out by entering the second quartile.
Mauritius: A Consistent Performer
Mauritius has maintained a ranking above the GTCI median since its inclusion in 2017. The country’s success is attributed to its strong performance in enabling and attracting talent.
South Africa’s Strong Points and Challenges
South Africa, ranked 68th globally, excels in the Attract and Enable pillars. However, the country faces challenges related to skills gaps and improving its performance in the Vocational and Technical Skills pillar.
